Herrerias del Rio Madera is a private hunting estate where it is possible to shoot wild boar, red deer, fallow deer and Spanish Ibex. The estate can make arrangements for hunting parties, mainly during the winter season - October to February.
A Tree House is available for guests to observe animals – mainly wild boar and deer – at dawn and dusk in their natural habitat. The tree-house has been located strategically at an important junction of established animal tracks.
The cortijo is set in a wide and beautiful valley within the estate with no noise or light pollution. Hot in summer yet extremes always tempered by the height and cool breezes.
The estate has many miles of un-surfaced forest and mountain tracks for walking, mountain biking, as well as far more extensive 4 wheel drive excursions on better tracks into the mountains. These tracks and the natural terrain are perfect for both trail and mountain bikes. At approximately 1,400 metres above sea level the property enjoys an enviable climate with much sunshine, but avoids the most severely high air temperatures that are experienced in the lower valleys and plains of Jaen and other regions. The estate generates revenue from holiday and business lettings, hunting parties, logging and pastures for shepherds.
The estate is located in the heart of the Sierra de Segura natural park in the Jaén mountain range. Jaén province is Spain's largest protected area and boasts four Natural Parks, a series of mountain ranges with peaks over 2,000 meters high, beautiful valleys, lakes and rivers.
Granada airport is a three hour scenic drive and the estate is equally accessible from the airports of Madrid, Valencia, Alicante and Seville. From the main Granada-Albacete National Road, which skirts the Natural Park to the west, from the exit for Puerta de Segura it is a 40 minute drive into the mountains where you will find the paradise estate.
