HSBC's Global Expat survey, is now in its 13th edition / year, and it received input from approximately 20,000 Expats in more than 40 countries around the world in its interview-based 2020 survey. It ranks countries based on 6 areas (with a further 18 sub-areas), grouped into 3 overall categories (Living, Aspiring, Mindset), based on the Expats' input and experiences of the country that they have moved to. HSBC positions the survey as “the longest running independent global survey of expats".
The top 5 countries in the 2020 Survey are:

Spain is the No 1 (and Portugal 5th) Country in the world for 'Living' (combined: Wellbeing, Society, and Little Expats) - 3 of the 6 'areas' researched in the Study.
