Country Areas (Spain)

The hinterland areas of Spain (typically 30 mins up to 90 mins from the Coast) offer many attractions, such as living a traditional Country lifestyle, being in or close to an Agricultural economy, superb scenic environments, value for money properties, (Farms, Land, Houses) and yet typically very accessible to international airports or coastal beach environments.

We feature some of the best areas in this regard:

1. Inland Alicante

1A. Inland Costa Blanca South - around Pinoso

1B. Inland Costa Blanca North - inland La Marina Alta

2. Inland Andalucia - primarily inland Malaga and Granada Provinces

2A. Inland Andalucia - primarily Central and Eastern Malaga Province and Ganada Province

2B. Inland  Andalucia - Serrania de Ronda (Western Malaga Province)

1A. Inland Costa Blanca South - Pinoso and surrounds

Travel westwards (inland) for 40 mins from the Coastal City of Alicante or the Alicante International Airport and you will find yourself in beautiful rural surroundings, mountainous backdrops, classic vistas, vines and olive groves, traditional buildings and architecture, and an opportunity for a ‘less hectic’ lifestyle compared to that at many Coastal resorts!

In the centre of this area is Pinoso, a lovely traditional town of +/- 8,000 population that is a hub for many of the smaller Villages and Hamlets in the surrounding area. These towns and villages in Inland Alicante and Inland Murcia Provinces are the base for the Wine Producing, Olive and Almond Growing, Furniture and Leather Production, and other industries in these county areas.

The lifestyle associated with these areas is epitomised by Pinoso itself—which has no traffic lights, hardly any traffic, and practically the only ‘jams’ are caused by the tractors taking the grapes to the Bodega (Winery). A country quality lifestyle !

To see the range of towns, villages in this area—each with their own unique community and character, look through the ‘Areas’ page on the Country Fincas’ website (see below).

Testimonial:

"Their professionalism, knowledge and kindness was so reassuring"

A huge thank you to Karen, Maggie and Brenda for helping us through the whole process of buying our beautiful home in Salinas. Their professionalism, knowledge and kindness was so reassuring and they inspired so much confidence from our very first contact through the website. We couldn't imagine a better service (that continues long after you have the keys) and they undoubtedly went above and beyond what anyone could possibly expect from their agents. Nothing has been too much trouble and they've been so patient with all our questions, really helping with so many aspects of our move to Spain. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this great team. Thank you so much! Marion & George  ( Marion and George Macklin(August 16th, 2017)

The Jalon Valley

Also known as the ‘Vall de Pop’, situated inland from the coastal towns of Denia, Javea and Moraira, surrounded by the Sierra de Bernia and Sierra del Forner Mountains.

Known for its many local fiestas celebrated all through the year, and for its wine from local bodegas that produce a fine Moscatel and, of course, a full bodied red!

Jalon attracts a more discerning visitor and resident who appreciates more of a country feel, although the coast and its beautiful beaches are only 30 minute drive away.

The Jalon Valley has some of the best scenery in Spain with magnificent mountains surrounding the landscape of vineyards, olive trees, orange and almond groves. Unspoilt villages are peppered throughout the Jalon Valley, including Alcalali, Jalon, Lliber and Parcent.

In late January and early February the whole of the Valley is covered with pink and white almond blossom, making the whole area a delight to be seen!

Jalon enjoys a fascinating gastronomy, famous for its pastries made with local almonds and its sausages, still produced using original recipes.

The area is fabulous for hiking with some beautiful routes throughout the Valley to the Mountains

Map of Central and Western Malaga Province, with some towns of The Serrania de Ronda circled in orange.

Some Images of Ronda and Gaucin

The Serranía de Ronda is a highly picturesque region located in the western parts of the province of Málaga, characterized by its rugged terrain, stunning landscapes, and charming villages. These villages, nestled amidst the rolling hills and mountains of the Serranía, offer visitors a glimpse into traditional Andalusian life, with whitewashed buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, and a relaxed pace of living. Here are descriptions of a few of the notable villages in the Serranía de Ronda:

1. Ronda: As the largest and most famous town in the region, Ronda is often referred to as the "Queen of the Serranía." Perched dramatically atop a gorge known as El Tajo, Ronda offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Its historic center is a maze of narrow streets, adorned with historic monuments such as the iconic Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) spanning the gorge, the Moorish baths, and the Palacio de Mondragón. (Ronda is about 65 min from Marbella on the coast.)

2. Gaucin: Gaucín is indeed often referred to as "The Balcony of the Serranía de Ronda" due to its elevated position in the mountains and the stunning panoramic views it offers. It is also referred to as "A Hidden Gem". Perched on a hillside, Gaucín overlooks the Genal Valley and offers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside, including the nearby Mediterranean Sea and the peaks of the Sierra Crestellina. Its whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, and Moorish castle add to its charm and appeal as a destination for residents and visitors seeking both natural beauty and cultural heritage.  (Gaucin is about 45 mins from Ronda and about 40 mins from Estepona on the coast.)

Resident and Visitors come to Gaucín to enjoy its tranquility, explore its historic sites, and hike in the surrounding mountains. The village also hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, adding to its allure as a destination in the heart of Andalusia.

3. Montejaque: Montejaque is a picturesque village nestled in the Serrania de Ronda. Characterized by its whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, and stunning natural surroundings. The village retains much of its traditional charm, with quaint squares, historic churches, and a laid-back atmosphere. Montejaque provides a delightful retreat for those seeking to immerse themselves in the beauty of rural Andalusia. (Montejaque is about 20 mins from Ronda)

There are many other alluring towns and villages worthy of mention, such as  Setenil de las Bodegas,  Benaoján, Casares, Cotes de La Frontera, Jimenes de La Frontera
